Jerome Abrams’ Progression: The Early Years


Those who know Jerome Abrams know he is a knowledgeable physician who cares deeply for his patients.

His reputation in his local community is well established, and he was recently voted Kent County’s 2nd best physician. But local presence aside, not many of his friends or patients may know of his history before he entered private practice in Delaware.

Jerome Abrams was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He attended Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Pennsylvania and completed his Bachelor of Arts degree in philosophy in 1973, where he was awarded the John Noss Prize in Philosophy.

He turned to medicine and was accepted to Temple University School of Medicine in Pennsylvania. He completed his Doctor of Medicine in 1977 and was awarded the Emmanuel Weinberger Prize in Internal Medicine. From 1977 to 1980, Jerome Abrams performed his residency at Franklin Square Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

In the earliest part of his career, Jerome Abrams worked as an emergency staff physician. From 1980 to 1981, he was an emergency physician at Rolling Hill Hospital in Pennsylvania. He spent the following year working at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, and from 1982 to 1983, worked at Kent General Hospital in Dover, Delaware as an emergency physician.

It was in 1983 that Jerome Abrams left emergency services to work in private practice. From 1983 to 2013, he helped patients day after day at Dover Family Physicians. He performed a range of medical services including: inpatient, outpatient, critical care, and pediatric services. He recently started a new family practice called Family Medicine of Smyrna-Clayton.
